The NorVA Centre launched a pilot project of outreach to the Personal Care Home here in Flin Flon. The first activity involved hiring the handi-transport to bring residents to NorVA to view the Flin Flon Photography Club exhibit. The show was so very excellent and this was a great way for our NorVA artists to meet the PCH residents and have a cup of tea or coffee.
THE next four ACTIVITIES AT PCH INVOLVED AT LEAST FIVE VOLUNTEERS EACH TIME. EACH SINGLE 2 HOUR SESSION INVOLVED ONE HOUR PREP AND ONE HOUR PACK UP. SO ABOUT 20 VOLUNTEER HOURS FOR EACH SESSION, PLUS THE PCH RECREATION STAFF: RUTH TETLOCK AND LISA HOLMES. WE HAVE LEARNED THAT THE ONE ON ONE, PERSON TO PERSON VISIT AND ACTIVITY TIME IS REALLY IMPORTANT. The first ACTIVITY was CERAMIC PAINTING- THIS ACTIVITY INVOLVED CREATING AND FIRING TWENTY CERAMIC LOON SCULPTURES, prior to going to the PCH. FORTUNATELY VOLUNTEER LYNN BURROUGHS HAS THE EXPERTISE. EACH SCULPTURE WAS DUSTED AND BUFFED FOR THE RESIDENTS. THE RESIDENTS PAINTED THE LOONS AND LYNN TOOK THEM HOME TO APPLY A varathane AND THEN BROUGHT THEM BACK TO PCH. THE OTHER ACTIVITIES WERE ABSTRACT PAINTING WITH ACRYLIC, ADULT COLOURING AND ON MAY 6TH WE WILL HAVE hand building with clay AT 1:30.THE SIXTH ACTIVITY PLANNED IS ONE MORE TOUR FOR THE PCH RESIDENTS.
One option is to see THE HIGH SCHOOL SHOW LATER IN MAY OR THE SQUARE FOOT SHOW AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER. . AS WELL THERE WILL BE A CULTURE DAYS ARTIST SHOWING AT NORVA AT THAT TIME. THE BULK OF THE SUPPLIES FOR THE PCH PORTION OF NORVA'S OUTREACH PROGRAM ARE PAID FOR THROUGH THE $350.00 FROM HUDBAY.
